Newborn in Yucca Valley

Ive known K and Z for a wee while now, them having come into where i worked in yucca valley perusing the vinyl collection. Like most of the customers, they were happy and upbeat and “ always loved the high desert” and had recently bought a house in the area , spending their time split between Los Angeles for work and the peace that been surrounded by joshua trees bring.

After a few visits into the store and chitchatting with them, including covering their elopement at one point, they came in to announce , that their family was going to to expand by one , and once again we started talking about talking pictures. there was some back and forth, like most maternity shoots, i recommended trying to schedule as close to the arrival time as possible. All was well and dandy until Covid variant came along and put the kibosh on that plan. Necessity been the mother of invention, we decided to do a Christmas shoot with the caveat of me coming in the next morning and spending a while hanging out, drinking coffee and taking pictures.

I wanted to have a lowkey look at life, the sort of thing that attracts people to the high desert, and what Joshua Tree / Yucca valley has in abundance. When the opening of a new supermarket in town means a ripple of excitement , and 9pm get known as desert midnight, coffee filled sleepy mornings filled with dogs running around and laughter seemed like a proper Mojave Christmas .
